Where is GollyGee Town?

We started this weblog and the GollyGee Town site some weeks before NECC 2007, and we haven't posted anything since. Why? Well, we've expanded the scope of the GollyGee Town program and have been too busy developing the software to tell people about it. That's probably a mistake, so I'm taking a little break to fix it.

We originally envisioned Town as an add-on for GollyGee Blocks. You would lay out your GollyGee Blocks scenes in a grid to build a town. It's a great concept, but we've decided that if we're going to do something good we might as well go all out.

So now our vision is that you can build a town not just with your scenes from GollyGee Blocks, but with helpful tools like road tiles and trees and all sorts of premade useful objects. This is sort of the same concept as some existing map/town building programs have, but we're still bringing it into 3D with first person walkthroughs. We just want people who don't own GollyGee Blocks to be able to use and enjoy GollyGee Town as well.

This will also make it easier for people who do put their own GollyGee Blocks scenes into their towns, because they won't have to make all the little bits like roads and paths to connect their scenes together. In my experience that can take a while, and we want to get kids to go as quickly from a scene in GGB to a functional town as possible.

So this means we've been taking our time with the program and really making sure it's top-notch. Hopefully I'll be able to take a few more development breaks along the way to keep you posted on its progress.
